As part of their campaign against the tax on the family home, members of Sinn Féin Mallow and Sandra McLellan TD took to the streets of Buttevant last weekend to launch their petition against the tax. Speaking after spending the afternoon on the streets engaging with the weekly shoppers, Melissa Mullane, Sinn Féin spokesperson said, “Our aims were to engage with the public and collect signatures for our petition against the tax on the family home. The heartbreaking stories and frustration we heard from the public today are testament to the fact that austerity isn’t working, and people feel strongly that this is a tax too far.” She added, “Our experience today has made us more determined than ever to continue the campaign against this unjust tax. We know that we have huge support from the public as evidenced by the large number of signatures we collected today which will help in our campaign to have this tax repealed. I would like to thank the people of Buttevant for the great support today and can assure them that Sandra McLellan TD and Sinn Fein will make this home tax an issue in all upcoming elections and will call on the other party representatives to make their position clear on it.The people will then decide who represents them and their needs.”
