A project on fake news by two Patrician Academy students was highly commended at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition last week. Hugh Ahern and Conor McCarthy entered a project titled ‘An Investigation into how people aged 13 to 17 get their news, their awareness of fake news, and their ability to identify a news source as trustworthy’, and their hard work over several months bore fruit when judges awarded them a prestigious ‘highly commended’ desig-nation. School Principal Elaine O’Regan praised Hugh and Conor for their achievement, and added congratulations to teacher Ms. Walsh who oversaw their work.
